Angels & Demons

Angels do exist!
You just have to be patient enough to find one,
Even if that means waiting for twenty something long years!!

PS:
And Demons?
Whose blog do you think, you are reading now?

Dedication

Dedicating this scriblet to the gal who made my day today
(and a few of my twenty-something years).
Secretly, I o hope that I made her day.
Now, noone can blame that ain’t dedicated.

Am utterly dependent @ this moment.
Drafting this note on a gadget, listening to rock music, consuming a scottish drink.
Don’t know how any wizard could have pulled a laptop out of electrons.
Have never held a guitar in ma hands.
The scottish drink is a gift from my friend.
All of us are utterly dependent.
But do we give-back?
This scriblet is all that I offer now.

If we count on dependency, we will have to count our days as well.
Time is our ultimate dependency.
We are consuming time created by someone, someone superior,
someone who make the sun burn and the earth revolve around.
Call him as whatever you want.

But is it possible to pay this guy back?
Is it possible to return all the time we consumed to him?
May b time-travel will help.
But if we travel in to future, i
t just means that we consume time @ an accelerated pace.
So travelling forward in time won't help.
What if we cud travel back and return all time we consumed so far?
Great idea.
But we don’t know how to bend the physical laws to do it.
Until we learn that we should work.
Work and pay the fruits of work to the supreme Him.

When we do that we indirectly pay back the laptop engineer,
rock musician and scotch distiller as well.
Am gonna write a book and make a movie.
That’s my pay back(apart from whatever worthy deed I do everyday).

Film makers and musicians touch more lives than they realize.
Some in positive ways and few others in other ways.
Blessed is he, who can inspire others with his work.
All great directors and musicians
(the Torontinos, AR Rehmans, David Lynchs, Mani Rathnams, Pink floyds)
are a blessed lot in this way. But people seem to be obsessed with films.

“His films have always been a hit hit. But this one isn’t”
“Hey, it’s a gr8 movie”
“Yes, but that’s not my point. It’s not a hit”
“It has already crossed 25 days”
“But this film cost 20+ crore Rupees to make. It has to run atleast 50 days to break-even”
“May b u r rite. The protagonist takes 10 crore”
This was the conversation between a hotel owner and his servant.
It was supposed to be the peak hour in the hotel.
But there wasn’t much ppl around.
While I was wondering why where all the customers had gone,
he was concerned about this big-budget film's financials.
Well, it’s his business. He must know how to run it.

But the restaurant servant/owner isn’t the only guy doing this.
The entire nation is obsessed with cinema.
On average, every citizen spends 1 hour per day on cinema or discussing cinema.
That’s lot of effort if you consider the entire population.
It’s this collective indulgence in cinema that contributes
so much money to the people involved in it.
If you have something else that can catch the fancy of ppl, you have clear winner.
But what could it be?

Shades make things interesting.
A plain Jane catches noone’s attention.
It is the imperfections in each of us that make us more human.
A personality shines only when it is juxtaposed with its silver lining and slimy shades.
I got my shades.
The silver linings??
Well, I must ask ma friends.

Shades are essential not just for character.
It is equally important for whiskey as well.
The dark golden shade makes u mistake it for elixer.
well, I have never seen nor tasted elixir.
But if it really does exist,
This is how it should be.

Wanted to paint an ode to my bottle of scotch.
Looking back, seems like I have already done it.

Started this column with a dedication.
The gal behind the dedication has her shades as well.
Shades that make her incredibly interesting.
She isn’t a plane Jane,
Neither is she my Jane.
But she’s almost the one behind ma mane.
Almost.

Love is the biggest source of strength but
Also the biggest vulnerability.

Vagabond

Escape:
There were seven of us. Karthik, Sree, Thanga, SreeKanth, Durai, Shen, Sarvesh (Names ordered by age). We were on time to take the train to Salem (Mangalore express). It was around 17:00 @ Chennai central. The official reason for the trip: attend Ska's marriage. The true motive: to vitalize our sinking spirits. By the time[22:00] we were @ salem, Sree was already starving after two chicken briyanis and Karthik had been ass four times(in six games).
Took the van waiting for us and went straight to the cinema. Indiana Jones, Forbidden Kingdom, Kuruvi were the options. Kuruvi won by an over-whelming majority of 6-1. Democracy ruled and we lost reason. Do you know that kuruvi, the bird has become extinct in TamilNadu? All of them committed sucide, when they came to know that this particular film was named after them. We are no kuruvis, therefore we are alive. Reached the lodge in Rasipuram @ 1:30.

Day 1 – Up we go
Five guys from blore and another from chennai joined us. G.k., Zulfi, Rohit, Nagoo, Muzafer were the blorians and Ragupathy the chennaiate. We were 13. We were on-time for lunch @ the wedding reception. The couple were a good match, The bride-groom had the biggest smile, hopefully not for the last time in his life. After a hearty meal, started our trip to kolli hills.

breathTaking

Kolli hills is 15-20 km from Rasipuram. Reached the foothills by 16:00. The climate changed drastically but pleasantly halfway thru the climb. It was cool. The hills were verdant. We stopped the van halft way and took a refreshing walk. Spotted a few monkeys and a snake on our way up.

lostInNature

90 mins and 72 hair-pin bends later, we were almost @ the top. Reached our cottage by 18:00. The kid in us came out and played (spoil-sport). We were busy playing shuttle, cricket, throw-ball. Kolli was welcoming us with a heavy down-pour. karthik and Durai started rain-dancing with nothing but their towel. It was hot. As the rain got heavier, the power failed. It was bliss.
The real party started by 21:30. "To kolli, Cheers!" The party went on till there was blood on the (dance-)floor. Whatever is discussed over a drink, runs down with the drink and never discussed again.

Day 2 - What a fall?
Akash Ganga - that's the name of the fall located on kolli. It was located near Arappalleswar temple. One has to get down 1121 steps to reach the falls. Took 20 - 25 mins to get down the steps. Our legs were literally shaking. We were hugely disappointed to find a massage man instead of a maid. However, the guy was good @ his craft and almost all of us had oil massage.
What a fall it was? It was around 500 feet high and water was flowing down heavy. From that height, there isn’t much difference between needles and water. It was like needles piercing all over your body at once. But it was thrilling. By the time I was approaching the falls, was already thinking about the snakes that could be swimming with us. But all that fear vanished when I got near the main falls. Was worrying how I could survive if I were to be washed away. Had one of the most enlightening moments when I got under the waterfall. Raised my head and looked straight @ the water that was falling from above. We are nothing but dust before nature.

silverLining

We took 2 hours to climb up the steps which we had earlier climbed down in 20 mins. Was almost 17:00 when we were back @ the cottage. Guys from blore and Ragu started to their respective places. We were (sexy) seven again. That night, Karthik had his revenge. He won the game of cards.
A bon-fire was arranged. The party started there and went on to the cottage till 02:30. Durai and Thanga were dancing their heart out @ the bon-fire.

Day 3 – All good things have to end ;)

unravished

'Ettukkai Amman' temple was the first place we visited. The roads were narrow and there was thick vegetation on either side. Were enjoying every inch of the ride. Legend has it that, if you write down your prayer in a sheet of paper and tie it to the vel @ the temple, your prayer will be answered with in certain number of days. While we were @ the temple, there were a few writing down their prayers. We then went to the Eashwar temple located near the Amman temple. Spotted a saffron-clad old man, counting a Rudraksha mala. Was wondering whether he was 'siththar'. But I was not hold enuf to query him.
'Mudhumakkal Thali' was ancient and interesting. It was supposed to be 2000 years old. “Mudhumakkal” means grand old people and “Thali” means container. Poeple who had completed all their worldly duties would wish for a 'samadhi' are placed in the “Thali” and left to rest(in peace). However, we could not find much inside the thali.
We spent sometime boating and then started our journey down. Drove down the hills with-in 40 mins. Reached salem by 20:30. Had heavy dinner and were back on our way to chennai.
The trip will stay in our memory lane for-ever. We loved every bit of Kolli. it was rough, rustic and adventurous. It is the place to be if you are single and like nature and adventure.

Tradition

Shouldn't break tradition.
Even if breaking it,is yours.
Scribbling beyond 23:59 on sunday is my tradition.
Why? It's about sanity. To make sure that am sane.
I guess that's the case with all traditions.
To make sure we are sane.

Bohemian Rhapsody is on air.
Bohemian means 'socially unconventional'.
Rhapsody mean 'enthusiastic or ecstatic xpression of feeling'.
Wow! what a title?
The track indeed is Bohemian.
It starts real slow.
Then it picks up steam and becomes real fast.
Almost like rock n roll.
Then it slows down to a ballad.
It's gonna b over and am starting to like it.

Came across this list from a health-column.

My question, how much does it take for making love?

Been to the metro-plus theater-fest this week.
"A Mid-Summer night's dream" is the opening play.
The Shakesperean play has been adapted to Korean culture.
It was pure magic.
The review is @
"Love Letters" was played yesterday.
There were just two actors/characters in the play.
The actors did an amazing job.
The play itself was brilliant.
Infact,It is the longest running play in India.
But somehow, I couldnt connect to it.
The story happens in America between two americans.
Played out to Indians by Indian artistes.
Don't feel that it is honest.
But the experience itself was good.

"The Hindu" is becoming a major influence of my life.
Have been reading it since I was in 10th standard.
It has been my gateway to the world around.
The more I have known it,the more I have loved it.
Have never found a daily that is so mature and honest.
It has influenced my thoughts,my life-style,me.
And am happy abt what it has done.
Weird! Weird to find that am so fond of a daily.
But that's how it is.
Met N.Ram,the editor-in-chief @ the theater-fest.
Regret that I didnt talk.
Am gonna associate myself with this daily that has defined and become a part of me now.

A Question before we bid adieu.
What will you be doing if you have everything you ever needed/wanted?
.
.
.
Write down your response.
Now you can go thru mine.
I will be ...
Spending time with bro n dad on a pet-project.
Taking mom to temple.
Spending time/making love with my other half.
Working smarter/harder than ever for what I believe in.
Writing down this blabber of a note.
Order of the list undefined.

You gotta wait to know what I belive-in.
Thanks to Ray Charles,Beatles,Pink Floyd,Led Zappelin.

Impressions

Been to the film titled "Arai En 305Il kadavul".
It's about people and God.
The protogonists undergo lot of difficulties.
They shout @ God and he does come.
There on,the story revolves around usual people but with God amongst them.
Aint gonna review the film in detail or discuss the techinicalities of it.
I'm impressed by the simple yet powerful message the movie conveys.
You will understand it with the single scene I describe.
It's the climax.
Unlike other movies,it's an eventless climax set in a T-stall.
Eventless it may be,
but if you really get the gist of it,you will have an eventful life.
God : Where's your mother? She is good singer. I like the way you to dance to your mom's song.
Vagabond : Mom's gone. She's gone to God. She was a victim of the recent religious riot.
Now that she's gone. I have to sing and my brother has to dance.
God : (sad) Take this money. Have some food.
Vagabond : No sir! I will not take this money without any work. If I do take it,
it's charity and not wage. Mom has told me never to accept charity.
God : Ok sing. Let me listen.
The boy starts singing and his younger brother dances to the tune.
Guess what the song is,"Kurai ondrum illai ..... kannaa........"
There ends the wonderful film.
What you infer from the above conversation depends on your perspective.

"Work,for the sake of work!
What you do defines what you are!"

Well,that's what I infered.
Am trying my best to stay true to the inference.
If aint true to it,I wont be writing this blog while taking my weekly scotch listening to some of my fav tracks.
Someone told me that writers had a big ego.
Going by the number of I's in the lines above, that someone is wrong.
Writers have the biggest ego.

Let me try not to be an egotist.
What was the most interesting encounter I had, involving someone else?
Been to the movie with Shreya.
I guess she's the reason why I find the film unsually enjoyable! ;)
She's modern yet conservative.
Independent yet obliging.
I love her company @ the movies.

At the movie, was out sipping coke in the interval.
There was this guy who put me in a real fix.
Take a look:

He took one look @ me and wanted a pic with me.
A pic with my shirt off.
He was persisting with the request for such a long time,I couldnt say no.

There's another gal whom I met this weekend whose face still lingers in my mind.
Was returning from SNEHA foundation's aniversary ceremony.
There was a traffic jam.
Was behind a car on my bullet.
Thru the car glass saw one of the most beautiful faces I've come across.
And she was looking @ me.
Signalling @ me.
Requesting me to move my bullet back.
I could only oblige.
Still remember the expression of gratitude on her face.
Would she be thinking about me @ this time?
Would I meet her again?
I dont know.
I dont care.
I enjoyed that moment and am happy that it happened.

If you have been reading this far,it could only mean one of two things.
You are either loving me(i.e if you are a gal) or wanna be my best friend(i.e if you a guy)!
Oh k lover,kisses.. till v meet again.
And my dear friend,good-bye ;)

Reality

Came across this question while channel-surfing.
"Sanjay Dutt has been married twice,
before his recent marriage.
what is the name of his first wife?"
What kind of quiz is that?
Sanjay is an actor and it is reasonable
to quiz one,on his acting career.
Why would someone ask a question on his private life?
And are people really interested in such talk?

Going by the number of SMS responses,
the answer is a resounding 'yes'.
People really are interested in such details.
Not just about Sanjay, but about others in general.
We may attribute is to the voyeur in each of us.
It may be a bitter pill to swallow, but as a society
we are a big bunch of voyeurs, preying in each others
internal affairs. The success of 'reality-shows' on T.V
is a tribute to our voyeurism.

There was an article on netscape that listed
the reasons why reality-shows were a hit.
1) Voyerism
2) Economy
A reality show can be produced at a fraction
of the cost it takes to make a prime-time soap.
The production cost is low because the people on reality
shows are not stars. They are ordinary guys/gals l
ike you and me. Most would go on-air for as little as ..
well, for nothing. They accept such low wages
because the show can transform them in to stars over-night.
Even if one doesn't go on to become a star,
he/she can still be happy because they will be
on prime-time T.V.

An important point the article missed-out
was the "rags to riches" part of the story.
We love to see someone like us sweat it out,
beat the competition and become a successful star.
It is inspiring and it gives one hope.
Everyone in the audience identifies with one of the
participants and celebrate the participant's
victory as their own.

So,reality shows are good,
good for the channels - because they can attract
more and more viewers at lesser cost,
good for the participants - because they become
rich and famous.
But is it good for the viewers?
Well,that depends on your view.
